C&T awarded funding for new interactive walking map of Woodrow, Redditch

C&T and Prospero have been awarded funding from the Inclusive Communities Fund to develop four interactive walks for the residents of Woodrow in Redditch, Worcestershire.

Working with children and teachers from Woodrow First School, C&T will research and then bring to life through drama the history, geography, stories and landscape of this often overlooked area of North Worcestershire. Woodrow is an internationally recognised school for its use of a powerful drama technique called ‘Mantle of the Expert,’ which will be used to enable these young children to think like cartographers, designing a map that tells often overlooked stories of the local area. They will bring these stories to live through, video, images and audio recordings of their drama.

Next Prospero will use this locally inspired creative content to shape four interactive walks around Woodrow and Redditch which anyone can access through their smartphones.

The ambition is to get local people to become more active exploring their local area in fresh and exciting ways and gaining new insights and perspectives through the imaginations of local children.

Dr Paul Sutton, C&T’s Artistic Director, said “We are so excited to be working with the staff and students of Woodrow First School on this new project and doubly pleased to be getting support of Inclusive Communities to make it happen. Woodrow has an incredible reputation for its work using drama in the classroom. I’m sure by working together we can make something exciting and innovative happen to improve everyone’s lives in Redditch.”
