C&T recreates Liverpool Overhead Railway in Virtual Reality

The signals are on green for C&T's latest collaboration with Bootle's Inclusion Network and Litherland Youth Centre on Merseyside.  Thanks to the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund young people from across these two communiuties will work with C&T over the next six months to retell the history and stories of Liverpool's Overhead Railway.

The railway - known as the Dockers' Umbrella because it acted as a shelter from the rain for dock workers - famously served the communuities along the river Mersey for many generations, until it was decommissioned in the 1950s.  C&T will be using drama to create reconstructions of the lives and stories of local people as if part of a daily commute into Liverpool's Docks.  The drama will be staged in the museum of Liverpool's last remaining railway carriage and captured digitally using 360 immersive video techjnology.  The drama will then be made available online for anyone with a smartphone and VR headset.

Young people will resreach the history of the railway, visut local museums and use drama to then bring the past to life.

"We're very excited to work again with our good friends in Bootle and Litherland and we're very grateful to HLF for supportibg our exciting vision ' said Paul Sutton, C&T's Artistic Director.

C&T has recruited two exciting young pracitioners from the local area - Cameron and Sophie-Ellen - who will be leadibg regular weekly sessions in the two centres alongside C&T's  experienced web and technology developers.
