C&T begin ongoing progamme of theatre work in Nairobi

C&T has begun an ongoing programme of work in Korogocho, a slum district of Nairobi, Kenya.  

Korogocho is home to approximately 100,000 people living in appalling conditions.  Disease, malnutrition, crime and abuse are extensive, with young people amongst the most vunerable.  C&T has worked closely with local volunteers groups for eight years, but has now taken the step of employing a theatre worker to deliver drama and digital projects in schools across the slum.

Peter Mwashi Litonde has extensive experience using techniques such as Theatre of the Oppressed and Image Theatre in Korogocho, having been born and brought up there. He has also worked on many C&T digital projects.  Now, as a member of the C&T team he will work in three schools - two primary and one high school - as well as with a youth social justice group set up by Peter and other volunteers. 

Berginning their work, the young people are using drama to focus on three pressing isues:  air pollution, school drop out rates and the plight of street children.  Later in the year they will begin to look at the issue of 'Fake News' as it impacted on recent Kenyan elections and as part of a larger global C&T Networked Theatre collaborive project.
