‘The Walk’ - Good Chance Theatre’s astonishing project that last year carried a message of hope for displaced people and children everywhere, is to be transported to New York City during September - and Prospero is going to be part of her new journey. Now C&T and Prospero are helping Little Amal to reach schools across New York City.

‘The Walk’ is the story of a little girl on a big journey. Little Amal is a giant puppet of a 10 year old Syrian refugee girl, who since July 2021 has travelled over 9,000km across 12 countries representing all children fleeing war, violence and persecution and each with their own story, Little Amal’s urgent message to the world is “Don’t forget about us”.

Now Little Amal is visiting New York City, connecting with people across this famous city of migrants. As part of this visit, Prospero will be enabling schools across the city to tell and share their own stories of migration through the devices essential to every modern day journey of migration: smartphones.

Using Prospero’s innovative mix of drama and digital and inspired by Little Amal, children, families and communities will be able to research their own migration stories. Using Prospero’s unique facility to fuse drama, storytelling, interactive maps, film, news alerts, video and text messages, these stories will then be brought to life and shared through a specially created website. Participating schools will have access to a suite of interactive learning resources in Prospero that will enable them to research and dramatise their stories then share them easily and directly through the platform with families, friends and communities.

Prospero is the perfect tool for this work, matching the physical mass participation that accompanies any appearance by Little Amal with a digital one. The platform’s ability to reach new audiences and participants at scale and distance means just as Amal can touch thousands of New Yorkers lives, so can Prospero. Over the last week C&T have been tracking Amal across the city, capturing her visits to Times Square, Lincoln Centre, Coney Island and Central Park. This material then forms part of the digital resources being made available for use in schools.
